Preparing Notifiable Disease Contingency Plan

Produced by the Environment (Infrastructure and Environment)
Authored by Hugh Morris and published on 01 Jun 2010
Cost: £14,760.00

Summary

As part of the Department of Environment’s commitment to protect animal health and welfare, Hugh Morris was commissioned to help the  Disease Control Management Team prepare a contingency plan for notifiable animal diseases.

The plans detail the control measures to be taken if there is an invasion of exotic notifiable animal disease.

These include:

  • confirmation of disease
  • slaughter
  • disposal
  • cleaning and disinfection
  • proving disease freedom post outbreak
  • restocking

As well as fulfilling States policy, these measures are required by our obligation to meet EU legislation if we wish to trade and accord with best practice. Examples of the type of disease covered are Classical Swine Fever and Foot and Mouth Disease.

Due to the nature of the report and the Island's security, this report is not available to view.
