Summary
The Social Security Department compiles and administers data on people registered as Actively Seeking Work in Jersey. The States of Jersey Statistics Unit independently analyses this anonymised data and publishes monthly reports of the figures.
On 30 April 2014:
- on a seasonally adjusted basis, the total number of people registered as actively seeking work (ASW) in Jersey was 50 lower than a month earlier, March 2014 and 110 lower than the average for the preceding three months
- the seasonally adjusted ASW total was the lowest for more than two years (December 2011)
- the non-seasonally adjusted ASW total was 1,610, this latest total is 120 lower than in the previous month (March 2014) and at the same level as in September 2012, which had recorded the lowest ASW total since December 2011
- long-term ASW (registered for more than twelve months) accounted for almost a fifth of total ASW, the number of long-term ASW (300 individuals) was at the same level as the previous month (March 2014), which had recorded the lowest number since November 2012
- 210 teenagers aged 16-19 years were registered as ASW, 30 fewer than the previous month; 100 teenagers were on the Advance to Work scheme
