How to access the Children's Occupational Therapy service
Anyone can refer a child to Occupational Therapy by completing our referral form.
We must have consent from the child's parents or guardian to accept a referral.
Children’s Occupational Therapy Referral Form
Our appointments are at our central base which is the Child Development and Therapy Centre. There may be a need to see you child at an alternative location based on their Occupational Therapy needs such as at home, school or care environment.
Wait times
Once we accept your referral we will allocate your child to the appropriate clinic waiting list.
We'll write to you to let know that we have received your referral. We prioritise our referrals according to need and therefore waiting times can vary.
Initial assessment
Your child will see an Occupational Therapist at either the Child Development and Therapy Centre or in the community including home, nursery or school.
We'll observe them engaging in a range of activities which may include standardised assessments, and observe their natural responses. We will also ask you questions to help us gain a true reflection of your child.
Appointments generally last between 45 minutes and an hour. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at their appointments at the Child Development and Therapy Centre.
The outcome of the initial assessment will determine the ongoing Occupational Therapy input.
