Getting a prescription
If you're given a prescription at your hospital visit, you must bring it to us to collect your medicines. You can't get GP prescriptions from us.
Our location
We are in the corridor between the Outpatients Department and The Parade entrance of the General Hospital.
Cost
You don't need to pay for medicines, unless you have a private prescription.
Getting more medicines
You will get 1 month's supply from us and you will need to go to your GP for more.
GP prescriptions
We cannot dispense normal prescriptions written by GPs.
Hospital only medicines
If you can only get your medicine from us, we will give you up to 3 months' supply.
You must order more from your consultant's secretary. This must be done at least 7 days before you need them. You can then collect these from us.

It is open from 10am to 12pm Monday to Friday and is closed over the weekend and bank holidays.
You might want to know:
- When and how you should take your medicines
- whether you can take other medicines at the same time
- what the possible side effects are
The Medicines Helpline must not be used in an emergency. I you need emergency treatment call 999 or go to the Emergency Department.
Waiting
If you would like to wait, it will take about 45 minutes to get your medicines ready.
There are two waiting areas fitted with pharmacy screens located:
- outside the Pharmacy
- in the Outpatients waiting area
When your medicines are ready, it will show on the screen in the waiting areas.
Alternatively, you can drop off your prescription by leaving it in our 24 hour drop box, located in front of the Pharmacy. Your medicines will be ready for collection approximately 24 hours later.
There is a children's play area in the general outpatient waiting area. Food and drinks are available nearby.
