Why go private

Join the thousands of patients that use their private medical insurance every year at Jersey General Hospital.

You may have medical cover through your employer as a company benefit or you may have your own private medical insurance policy. Whichever you have, make sure you use it when you need it most.

Going private is also available if you don’t have medical insurance. You can pay direct for your private treatment, known as 'self-paying'.

Going private gives you access to:

  • choice of consultant
  • consultant-led care throughout your treatment
  • quick access to treatment
  • flexibility to choose when you have your treatment
  • access to treatment that may not be available to the public
  • recovery in a private en-suite room
  • flexible visiting hours for family and friends
  • on-island care without the hassle and expense of travelling to the UK*

* If you choose to go off-island for private treatment or if your GP refers you to a UK facility, travel and other related costs are not covered by Jersey General Hospital.

Giving you choice

Jersey General Hospital provides a comprehensive healthcare service. This gives you the choice on how you wish to receive your care.

The hospital benefits from:

  • increased public bed capacity
  • valuable income to cover the cost of healthcare delivery
  • larger clinical teams
  • improved resilience and stability in our health service
  • helping recruit and keep health staff in Jersey

How to access private care

You can access private care at Jersey General Hospital by visiting your GP. They will refer you to a hospital consultant. Some consultants will accept self-referrals.

Your GP has access to your medical history, which will be helpful to you and your consultant.

If you're admitted to hospital and wish to use your health insurance or self-fund, tell a member of staff.

If you don't have health insurance, you can self-fund your treatment. We can provide you with costs for all procedures and your stay. See our Paying for your care section for more information.

You can get full details of charges by contacting our Private Patient Finance Office on +44 (0) 1534 444495.

Urgent admissions

If you need urgent treatment on admission to hospital, you may be able to receive your treatment as a private patient.

If you have private medical insurance, you (or a member of your family) should call your insurance company to check if you have the necessary cover or you may wish to self-fund.
