Where to find us We are on the ground floor of the General Hospital. Follow the signs from the Parade entrance or Gwyneth Huelin entrance. The closest car park is in Patriotic Street.
Getting to the hospitals: transport and parking
Parking The nearest parking areas are on the ground floor of Patriotic Street car park or next to the Parade Gardens. You can be dropped off at the Gwyneth Huelin entrance between 7.45am and 7.45pm Monday to Sunday.
Opening hours Our opening times are Monday to Thursday, from 7.35am to 5pm, and Friday from 7.35am to 4.30pm. We provide urgent and emergency examinations outside these hours, and some MRI and ultrasound examinations evenings and weekends.
Disabled facilities There are disabled toilet facilities in the Radiology Department.
Translators We have Polish and Portuguese speakers.

Appointments What happens during your radiology appointment If you've received a radiology appointment letter, you may find our video helpful. It describes the appointment process so you know what to expect before you arrive.

Waiting areas When you arrive, we check you in and direct you to a waiting area. We try to carry out examinations on time, but emergencies take priority and can cause delays. We always keep you informed.
Fees for appointments If you're referred to us by a hospital consultant, you won't be charged. If you have a private appointment, you'll be sent an invoice and private rates apply. If you're referred by your GP, you need to pay for your appointment when you arrive.

Visitor charges If you have recently moved to Jersey, or are a visitor, you may be charged extra. We advise that you check your entitlement to treatment.

Types of examination The type of examination you'll have depends on what your app
We carry out the following types of examinations:
General x-ray

Examination preparation Some examinations need special preparation. Before your examination you may be asked, for example, to:
drink lots not to drink or eat at all or to drink a special fluid We tell you what to do to prepare in your appointment letter. You can email us or call us on the number in your appointment letter if you need more information.
What to wear You may have to change into a gown before your examination.
We show you a cubicle where you can get changed. There are free lockers for your clothes and other possessions. If you prefer to wear your own clothes, this may be possible. Clothes containing metal may need to be removed. Wearing clothes without zips, metal clips or buttons may reduce the likelihood of you needing to get changed.
Your results We check your images before you leave the department. Later, a consultant radiologist produces an official report. This is available to your hospital consultant and you get your results when you see or talk to them.
If your GP referred you, they usually receive a copy of the report within five working days. If you are not given your results after this time, contact your referring doctor.
Safety of examinations We follow all the relevant legislation that governs the use of radiation. Careful checks are in place to ensure the safety of radiation machinery for patients and staff. Radiation dose levels in our department are monitored to follow UK standards. If you have any questions about the
risks from radiation or related issues, ask the radiographer who carries out your examination.
Children We don't conduct examinations on patients under 16 without the consent / presence of a parent or guardian, except in an emergency. Patients under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We do not have facilities to look after children who are not patients.
Our staff and service In this department there are several different healthcare professionals.
Consultant radiologist The doctor who reads the images and writes a report to send to your doctor. Radiologists may also carry out special tests using x-rays or ultrasound. They will sometimes treat the problem you have. None Radiographer Performs your examination and will produce the images. Some radiographers may have had more training so can read the images and write a report to send to your doctor White / Maroon Assistant Practitioner Carries out some x-ray examinations (mammography) White Assistant Offers support to you and the radiographer White / lilac Nursing sister Works with the radiologist during special examinations. They will also care and support you during the examination
