Will the vaccine give me seasonal flu?
No. The vaccine does not carry a 'live' virus, so it cannot give you seasonal flu. Some people may experience mild fever up to 48 hours after immunisation as their immune system responds to the vaccine, but this is not flu.
Are there any side effects to the vaccine?
The most common side effects are:
- tenderness or swelling where the injection was given
- a mild fever
- general aches and pains
- feeling tired
These will usually go away within a day or 2.
Is it compulsory to be vaccinated?
No, the seasonal flu vaccination is voluntary.
Where do I get the vaccine from?
You will need to arrange to have the vaccine at your GP's surgery.
Where can I get more information?
For more information on the vaccine email Public Health or contact your GP.
