Child health clinics

Child health clinics are run by Family Nursing and Home Care. They take place at different locations throughout the Island during the week. For times and locations of the clinics see the Family Nursing and Home Care website or the FNHC facebook page.

The clinics are to support you and your child and make sure their development is on track.

Clinics do not run on public holidays or bank holidays.

Going to a clinic

Your assigned health visitor will let you know which clinic is in your area. However, you're welcome to go to any clinic on the Island. To find out when clinics are running, see the FHHC website.

The clinics are free of charge and you do not need an appointment. You can go to a clinic with your child from birth up to the age of 5.

Make sure you take your child’s personal health record with you (red book) to the clinic.

If your child is unwell you should call your GP for advice. Do not take them to a clinic, especially if your child has diarrhoea, vomiting or has a rash.

Clinics are available to anyone caring for your child. You can give permission for your child to attend with another family member or child care provider by calling your health visitor.

What to expect at a clinic

You can attend a clinic for:

  • weighing your child
  • advice on growth and development
  • advice for nutrition and feeding
  • support and links to parent groups
  • speaking to a health visitor about any concerns you may have for either you or your child

At each clinic there will be a health visitor and a nursery nurse. There may also be a volunteer who will welcome you. You can chat with the health visitor or nursery nurse about any concerns you may have and they can offer advice.

Interpreters

There is a Portuguese interpreter at the clinic at St Paul’s Centre in St Helier every Wednesday afternoon.

If you need an interpreter for another language or can’t attend a clinic with an interpreter, Family Nursing and Home Care use The Big Word translation service.
