You can travel to Jersey by plane or boat. Jersey is close to both the UK and France.
Getting to Jersey by boat
If you’re travelling to Jersey with your vehicle, you’ll need to travel by ferry.
Condor Ferries is the main operator offering sailings to the island from St Malo in France, or Poole or Portsmouth in the UK.
If you’re on foot, when you arrive at
Elizabeth terminal, there’s a taxi rank or the main bus station is a 5 minute walk.

You can also hire a care, Europcar has a depot at the terminal, or you can arrange for other hire car companies to meet you at the terminal.
Getting to Jersey by plane
There are over 40 flights to Jersey each day. majority are from airports in the UK. However, flights can also be from some destinations in Europe.

There is a public taxi rank and a bus stop outside the main arrivals terminal.
Bringing your vehicle
When you arrive in Jersey, if you intend to live here for more than 12 months, you must register any vehicles you’re bringing with you immediately.
You must provide the following at
Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) at La Collette when you register your vehicle:
- a Jersey driving licence (which you need to get from your local Parish Hall)
- a valid insurance certificate or cover note for your vehicle (fax copies or photocopies are not acceptable)
- a Jersey customs import declaration (not required where the person registering is a customs approved trader)
- a valid registration certificate or export certificate (fax copies or photocopies are not acceptable)
Before you drive off the ferry you’ll need to check with your insurer that you are covered for the period between arrival and re-registering your vehicle. Once your vehicle is registered as a Jersey vehicle, you’ll be required to display a windscreen insurance disc (WID). Your insurance provider will supply you with your disk.

Check the driving licence requirements in Jersey
Any person who becomes resident in Jersey and who has a foreign driving licence is required to exchange their foreign licence for a Jersey driving licence.
There are a number of countries that have an exchange of licence agreement with Jersey.
If you hold a driving licence from a country that Jersey doesn’t have an agreement with, you must pass both a theory and practical driving test in Jersey to get a full Jersey driving licence.
