Jersey is divided into 12 parishes, each has its own unique identity and are central to the community. The parishes look after their parishioners and manage the local amenities, similar to how a local council does in the UK.

- registering to vote in elections
- rubbish collection
- recycling

Rubbish collection and recycling
Household rubbish is collected every week by your parish. The day it is collected will depend where you live in the parish.
Glass must be kept separate from household refuse.
Bring-bank recycling facilities are available in all parishes and kerbside recycling is also offered by some parishes.

Parish Rates
You'll need to pay annual Parish Rates if you are an owner or occupier of property in the parish. You should check your lease or rental agreement to find out if you need to pay rates.

Elections and voting
To vote in a
Public Election, you'll need to be on the Electoral Register.
To add your name to the register, you’ll need to be 16 years of age and have lived in Jersey for the last 2 years. Alternatively, if you’ve lived in Jersey for the last 6 months you must also have lived in Jersey for other period(s) that total 5 years.
You may register up to 3 months before reaching 16 years of age or completing the period of residence in Jersey.
