Local A Level results published today again indicate that Jersey students perform better than their counterparts in the United Kingdom.
In the A2 examinations, the pass rate for A to E was a remarkable 99.3% compared with the UK pass rate of 96.6%. What is even more noteworthy however is that well over half of the examination entries resulted in passes at the highest grades of A or B, a very impressive 58.3%, 10.2% more than in the UK. These A Level results yet again confirm the quality of the Education Service in Jersey.
The Minister for Education Sport and Culture, Senator Mike Vibert said he was delighted to see yet another set of excellent results from the Island schools.
“The figures released this morning surpass any that have gone before. The A level results are one of the most meaningful benchmarks against which any Education Service is judged; these results show us that our service can be compared with the best anywhere. All involved in the education of young people: parents, staff and the students themselves should today, be very proud. These results represent a tremendous dividend on the investment that the community makes in education.
Deputy Ben Fox, Assistant Minister for Education, Sport and Culture commented:
"Our young people are our most valuable asset and their tremendous achievements lay the foundations for a secure future for themselves and, indeed, the Island. My personal congratulations and best wishes are extended to them all, their parents and teachers. I wish them well".
The Director of Education, Tom McKeon said he was extremely pleased to see such good results,
"The Island community can join with the students, their parents and teachers in celebrating another successful outcome in this year's "A" level examination results. At a time when, quite rightly, there is close scrutiny of public spending, these results provide further evidence of the tremendous return on investment in education".
