The installation of a new foul sewer to serve the Leonards Garage development in La Rue de Sergenté, St Brelade has been postponed until next year in response to complaints from local businesses and residents. The works were due to start on Monday 23 October and would have involved the complete closure of part of the road near the Railway Walk.
However, a number of concerns were expressed about the potential disruption to the locality and, in response, Transport and Technical Services has been in consultation with local businesses, including the nearby Atlantic hotel, La Pulente pub and Ellies bistro. As a result, the developer, G R Langlois Ltd, and the contractor, P Trant (Jersey) Ltd, have agreed that the installation of the foul sewer to serve a new residential development will be postponed until Monday 8 January 2007. This new start date will be of particular help to the Atlantic hotel, which closes in January for four weeks.
"We are indebted to the helpful attitude of both GR Langlois and P Trant for helping us resolve this issue," said Deputy Guy de Faye, Minister for Transport and Technical Services, "I think that this demonstrates that the Department does listen to genuine complaints and tries to find practical solutions to problems that arise."
