19 March 2007
The Transport and General Workers Union has voted to accept a pay deal for its public sector workers. The agreement is for a two year deal, giving staff 2.75% backdated to June2006, with an increase which is tied to the Retail Prices Index for the 12 months from June 2007.
The decision was the result of a ballot of TGWU members. The result was 539 in favour of acceptance, and 390 against.
The same offer has been made to other public sector pay groups who have yet to settle. Until the TGWU decision today, only police officers and prison staff had reached agreement.
The Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, said he was very pleased that the long-running negotiation had come to a satisfactory conclusion with amicable agreement on both sides.
