Following an investigation by Transport and Technical Services, an electrical failure has been confirmed as the cause of the mechanical problem that affected the Elizabeth Marina tidal gates this morning.
Approximately one metre of water was lost from the marina as a result of the failure, which left 34 yachts touching the seabed.
However, staff from Jersey Harbours made a thorough inspection of the boats this morning and report minimal or no damage at all. All owners possibly affected have been contacted. Both Jersey Harbours and Transport and Technical Services will continue investigations to ensure a similar incident does not occur in the future.
Myra Shacklady, Business Development Director of Jersey Harbours confirms, “Pontoons have now been checked and I am pleased to confirm that business at the marina returned to normal at lunchtime today”. She concludes, “I would also like to acknowledge the actions of Jersey Harbours staff, whose quick thinking and subsequent actions enabled us to rectify the problem at an early stage”.
