During October last year, the Employment Forum carried out a review of the minimum wage. The Employment Forum was very grateful for the range of responses received and has now presented its recommendations to the Social Security Minister.
The Forum has recommended the following new rates to apply from 1st April 2007.

Mrs Sally Johnson, Acting Chair of the Forum, said “The role of the Forum is to make sensible and balanced recommendations that take into account our local economy and competitiveness. I believe that the recommendations are appropriate and I hope that they will be well received by the Minister.”
The Social Security Minister, Senator Paul Routier, said “I am very grateful to the Forum members for their hard work in producing these recommendations. I will give the report my full consideration and will announce my response shortly.”

Notes to Editors
- The current minimum wage rate is £5.24 per hour and the trainee rate is £3.94. £57.32 per week may be offset where accommodation is provided, and £76.43 may be offset where accommodation and food are provided. There is not currently a youth rate.
