29 November 2007
Jersey Airport’s festive activities will be officially launched tomorrow, Friday 30 November with the switching on of their Christmas lights at 12 Noon. This will be followed by the winners of the 2007 Christmas Card Competition being announced at a special ceremony, hosted by Airport Director, Julian Green.
In celebration of this year’s 70th anniversary of Jersey Airport, local primary schools were invited to submit entries to design the 2007 airport Christmas Card. The official Christmas card will be unveiled in the Atrium and the winning designer will be invited to switch on the Christmas lights. In recognition of their efforts, a number of the design entries submitted by the children will be on display in the departure hall throughout the festive period.
Friday’s launch is just the start of a number of activities planned at Jersey Airport over the coming weeks. Traditional Christmas music will be played in both terminals and the airport will welcome a number of the Island’s school choirs who will be entertaining arriving and departing passengers between Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th December.
Jersey Airport will once again be showing its support for the Jersey Christmas Appeal and raising funds by means of a public raffle. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses a number of prizes can be won, including return airline tickets to Paris Beauvais and Guernsey as well as cash prizes. Tickets, which cost £1 are now on sale from the Information Desk in the departures hall. To support their efforts, all fountain coins donated during November and December will be counted up and donated to the Appeal during January. In 2006, Jersey Airport raised £2,151.58 towards the Christmas Appeal.
Airport Director, Julian Green is looking forward to the coming weeks’ activities and says, “This has been a momentous year for Jersey Airport. Not only have we celebrated an important milestone in our history with the 70th anniversary but in recent weeks we have also had a number of reasons to celebrate with the introduction of new airlines and routes. Once again, the staff at Jersey Airport together with our business partners are pulling together to ensure that our passengers’ transit through the airport over the festive period will be a pleasurable one whilst at the same time raising money for a worthy cause”
