The
Transport and Technical Services Department
(TTS) will be undertaking 23 minor road works projects plus various minor works throughout 2007, which include routine replacements as well as traffic and safety improvements on main roads.
The Department had a list of about 50 projects that have previously been put forward either by individual Parishes or by the Department themselves. The Minister has been keen to involve the Constables in drawing up the works list and, therefore, asked each Constable to prioritise the schemes within their parish. TTS officers then collated the list, prioritised the projects across Parishes and put forward a programme of works to the Minister for 2007 that fitted the available budget.
The individual schemes range from routine replacement of traffic signals which will also incorporate improved pedestrian facilities at a number of key locations including Route du Fort/St Clements Road junction to traffic calming in Mont Cochon and the design of an accident reduction scheme on Beaumont Hill which has one of the
Island
’s worst accident records.
Transport and Technical Services Minister, Deputy
Guy de Faye
said: “I am delighted that the Constables were able to assist in prioritising the programme this year. I am acutely aware that there are a significant number of schemes which have not made it into this year’s programme as we just don’t have the money to do everything. I hope that funds will be made available in the future that will allow us to undertake the remaining projects.”
