Essential road maintenance work on La Grande Route de St Pierre / La Route de Beaumont between Mont Fallu and La Rue Vegueur (entrance to Le Manoir de St Ouen’s) will be carried out starting Tuesday 7th August for a period of 15 weeks.
The road is an important access route to the West of the
Island
and the surfacing has lasted well, some of it over 30 years, but now it is starting to deteriorate and needs replacing. As well as general resurfacing works, the project will involve significant strengthening at La Route de Beaumont. This will be achieved by excavating the areas where strengthening is required and replacing damaged material, before the final running surface is replaced. At the same time surface water drainage pipes will be repaired and where necessary replaced.
The first phase of the works will commence in St Peter’s Village, between La Rue de Pointe and La Rue du Manoir. To reduce disruption to peak hour traffic, site working hours will be Monday to Friday 9.15am to 4.30pm and then 6.30pm to 9.00pm, with the road open at all other times. During working hours the road will remain open to Southbound traffic, but Northbound traffic will be diverted around the West of the village using La Rue de L’Eglise / La Rue de Point. Phase one will take approximately 5 weeks to complete.
To avoid the major traffic disruption that would otherwise occur, the second phase of works, from La Rue du Manoir to Mont Fallu, will be carried out during weekday evenings (Monday – Friday 6.30pm to 2.00am), with all noisy working being strictly limited to before 10pm. For traffic, from 6.30pm to 9.00pm the road will remain open to Northbound drivers, but Southbound vehicles will be directed along short diversions via neighbouring lanes. After 9.00pm to 2.00am the road will be closed completely and Northbound drivers will also be diverted, via St Peter’s Valley. Phase two will take approximately 5 weeks to complete.
The final stage of the works, phase three, to the North of the village, between La Rue de la Pointe and La Rue Vegueur at the entrance to Le Manoir de St Ouen. This section of road carries less traffic than the other sections and therefore work here is being carried out last, at the end of the summer, to allow the potentially most disruptive, earlier phases of the project to be completed during the school holidays, when traffic flows are reduced. Site working hours will be Monday to Friday 9.15am to 9.00pm, with the road open at all other times. From 9.15am to 4.30pm the road will be closed in both directions and all traffic will be diverted via St Mary, using La Grande Route des Augerez. From 4.30pm to 6.30pm the road will be opened to Northbound traffic only, to allow peak hour drivers to return home. At 6.30pm the road will once again be closed completely, until 9.00pm. Phase three will take approximately 3 weeks to complete.
Whilst considerable efforts have been made to minimise disruption to the travelling public throughout the period of the works, drivers are strongly advised to allow extra time for their journey.
TTS will be liaising with Brenwal Ltd to ensure that nuisance and disruption is minimised and managed. Where inconvenience is inevitable, residents and the travelling public will be provided with clear information in advance of the works. Advertisements and signs identifying the extents of the works and diversions will be posted.
