Road Closure at the junction of Val Plaisant, David Place and Midvale Road

31 December 2007

The junction of Val Plaisant, Midvale Road and David Place will be closed from 2 January for seven and a half weeks to allow Jersey Gas and Jersey Water to undertake enabling works prior to the major drainage contract which starts in March 2008.

Diversions will be in operation.  Traffic entering and leaving town will be diverted on to the Ring Road.  The primary southbound route for traffic wishing to access David Place and Val Plaisant will be down Stopford Road.  The primary northbound route for traffic along David Place will be into St Mark’s Road.

The following areas will be closed to through traffic: Midvale Road; Val Plaisant, between Robin Hood Gyratory and David Place; and Val Plaisant, between David Place and Victoria Street.  Access to businesses and premises in the vicinity of the closure will be maintained at all times.

Bus route number 4 will be affected by the closures.  The buses coming into town from Trinity will be diverted on to the Ring Road at the Robin Hood junction.  The bus stops outside the Hampshire Hotel and Checkers Express will be suspended and a temporary stop will be located at the bottom of Victoria Street.  The number 4 heading out of town will be diverted into St Mark’s Road and around the Springfield Gyratory to Robin Hood.  The bus stops outside St Mark’s Church and the Hampshire Hotel will be suspended; the nearest available bus stops are at Springfield Stadium and Dongola Road.

Although Transport and Technical Services and their contractors will be doing everything they can to minimise the noise and disruption, there are likely to be traffic delays in the area and motorists are recommended to leave extra time for their journeys.

These works form the second phase of the major sewer and drainage upgrade project to enable the system to cope with the increased loads that have occurred since the pipes were first built and to more efficiently manage the flow by separating the surface rain water, which can run into the sea, from domestic foul sewage which needs to go to Bellozanne for treatment.
