Last few days to enter the ‘Big Plastic Bottle Recycle’ competition

02 December 2008

Islanders have until the end of this week to have a chance of winning £200 and a further £200 for a local school by recycling plastic bottles.

The competition, organised by Transport and Technical Services and sponsored by Coca-Cola, has been running since 1 September 2008. The competition encourages islanders to write their telephone number using a permanent marker pen on clean, empty plastic bottles before taking the bottles to one of the island’s 15 recycling sites.

The recycler of the lucky bottle will receive £200 and an opportunity to choose a local school that will also receive £200.

The winner of the first draw, held in October, nominated Trinity School to win £200 as the school is fund raising for new ‘timber trail’ playground equipment.

The final draw will take place next week so Transport and Technical services would like to remind people to take part and that the more plastic bottles you recycle, the more chance you have of winning!

Emma Richardson, Assistant Recycling Officer, said ‘The aim of the competition was to raise awareness of plastic bottle recycling and the 15 recycling sites across the island. We hope that the competition has motivated some people to start recycling and that they will continue to recycle after the competition closes.’

More information regarding the Big Plastic Bottle Recycle is available at www.gov.je/recycling or by picking up a leaflet from Checkers and Safeway stores, Bellozanne Recycling Centre and La Collette Green Waste Site.
