Essential road maintenance work on Victoria Avenue between Bel Royal and La Rue du Galet will be carried out starting Tuesday 8 April for a period of 10 weeks. This is the first part of a 3 stage project to improve the Island’s most important route and event venue, which was first built in 1963 and is travelled by 30,000 vehicles per day,.
The work includes, strengthening the road, renewing the existing kerbs and improving the 45 year old drainage system, widening and improving the central reservation, improving visibility at junctions and other safety features, landscaping and renewing street furniture, and replacing the 25 year old street lighting with modern energy efficient equipment, fitted with the facilities to mount PA systems and banners for events.
To minimise disruption to traffic, the road will be open for the morning and evening peak hour traffic and the work will take place in the daytime under lane restrictions and in the evening under road closures. During evenings lane restrictions will apply to Westbound traffic and the Eastbound traffic will be diverted at the Bel Royal bus cross over on to the Inner Road as far as Rue du Galet.
Motorists are asked to allow extra time for their journey, particularly importantly when travelling to the airport to catch flights, and use St Peter’s Valley as an alternative route where possible.
More details information about the project traffic management will be publicised nearer the time.
