Jersey Airport is advising passengers to check with their airline before starting their journey to clarify what seasonal goods they are permitted to carry onboard when travelling during the festive season. Any wrapped Christmas presents should be carried within checked-in hold luggage. Items carried as part of hand luggage should remain unwrapped as they may be subject to a physical examination. Likewise, liquid items in containers of less than 100ml (i.e. perfumes, pastes, gels, jams, preservatives, lotions, etc.) that are carried as part of hand luggage must be placed within a single, clear re-sealable bag (no larger than 20cm x 20cm) and presented at security search separate to hand baggage.
To avoid the disappointment of items having to be refused carriage at security check-in, Jersey Airport’s Terminal & Security Services Manager, Steve Read, is keen to remind passengers to pay special attention to what seasonal goods they are permitted to carry. He said, “We appreciate this is the time of year when people will be travelling from Jersey with a higher than usual number of presents but strict security measures remain in place. However, by giving passengers advance warning of what they are able to carry onboard decreases the risk they take of having items denied boarding and will allow them the opportunity to make alternative arrangements if necessary.”
Mr Read advises passengers that whilst Christmas Crackers are not permitted to be carried as part of their hand baggage, some airlines will accept them for travel provided they are stored in their checked-in hold luggage. In this case, crackers are only permitted if they are factory produced, remain in the box unopened and are limited in quantity. No home-made crackers are allowed. Likewise, ‘Party Poppers’ are not permitted to be carried in the cabin or the hold by any airline.
Jersey Airport has listed on its website items that have carriage restrictions imposed upon them. However, any passengers travelling with specific queries as to what items can be carried are advised to contact their individual airline so as to avoid disappointment should items be refused carriage at security.
