The Canadian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency James Wright, begins a two-day official visit to Jersey tomorrow (Wednesday) – the first to the Island since he took up his post in August 2006. Mr Wright is accompanied by his wife Ms Donna Thomson.
The High Commissioner will meet the Deputy Bailiff, Michael Birt, and will be briefed on
Jersey
’s international relations by the Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker, and senior officials.
Welcoming the High Commissioner’s visit, Senator Walker said: “

has longstanding historical and economic links with
Canada
and we are keen that these continue to develop and prosper in the future.”
Mr Wright is visiting Jersey Finance Limited, the Jersey Financial Services Commission and the Royal Bank of
Canada
.
During his stay, the High Commissioner is staying at Government House as a guest of the Lieutenant-Governor, His Excellency Lieutenant General Andrew Ridgway CB, CBE.
On Wednesday evening the Deputy Bailiff is hosting a dinner in honour of the Canadian High Commissioner.
