Air Quality Survey launched

10 December 2009

The Planning and Environment Department has today launched an online survey which asks Islanders for their views on Jersey’s air quality.  The results of this survey will help shape the priorities for the Air Quality Strategy Green Paper, which is due out for consultation in late spring 2010.

The aim of the strategy is that everyone in Jersey should have access to outdoor air without significant risk to their health and that there should be no negative impacts from air pollutants on the environment of Jersey or our neighbours.

The survey is the starting point for involving interested Islanders during the coming year and covers a range of key issues including:

  • what people think about current air quality levels?
  • how much people know about air quality and how concerned they are?
  • what people consider to be the biggest sources of air pollution? And
  • where the priorities lie for resolving these issues?

Assistant Minister, Deputy Robert Duhamel said: “I am delighted to see progress on the Air Quality Strategy.  Gathering people’s views on Jersey’s air quality will ensure that the Strategy addresses any areas of concern from the outset.”

Questionnaires will also be available from the Planning and Environment Department at both the South Hill and Howard Davis Farm offices.
