The Minister for Transport and Technical Services is putting forward five additional services in his proposals for the summer timetable. These include a new morning
‘express’ commuter service from Les Quennevais which will travel from Bel Royal to St Helier along Victoria Avenue and also two
late night buses on Friday and Saturday evenings from St Aubin to town.
In total there are over 20 changes compared to the summer timetable last year, some of which are minor practical amendments to avoid duplication or regularise services. Four services would be withdrawn although two of these have been replaced by a service following a slightly different route (Route 3B at 10.50 and 13.50 from St Helier would be replaced by Route 23 at the same times). The two services which would be withdrawn are the Route 7B at 16.30 from Greve de Lecq, which both the Red Island Explorer and the Route 9 already serve, and Route 12A at 9.20 from L’Etacq which has a very low demand. Saving resources on these routes allows for the proposed new additional services as well as well as an extra Route 15 at 9.15 and Route 23 to Durrell at 9.00. The proposed changes would all be managed within Connex’s current contract and do not require additional funding.
Connétable Mike Jackson, the Minister for Transport and Technical Services, said “I am delighted to be able to offer some additional services this year and to trial the idea of an ‘express’ service along the Avenue. I really hope this will
attract new passengers from the west of the Island knowing that the service will not be stopping and starting along the St Aubin’s Inner Road.” He continued, “I want
members of the public to let me know whether they think these proposals are a good idea or not and I would like them to contact me over the next two weeks with their views.”
The Minister has also approved the
2009 Island Explorer service. This service starts on Saturday 4 April, the first day of the schools’ Easter holidays, and operates 7 days a week through until 11 October 2009. It will then also operate on the following three weekends to provide services up until the beginning of November.
