Review of Environmental Protection regime

The Planning and Environment Department have invited Chris Swinson, the Comptroller and Auditor General, to undertake a review of the States’ current environmental protection regime.

The work will include reviewing existing legislation and associated regulatory processes and procedures including, for example, water testing. Full terms of reference will be published shortly.

Deputy Rob Duhamel, the Department’s newly appointed Assistant Minister with special responsibility for the environment said: “We are delighted that Mr Swinson has agreed to undertake this review. As concerns about the environment move ever further up the agenda, it is essential to ensure that we have the right protection regime in place. This review will help us do just that. 

The Comptroller and Auditor General will look at a range of issues, using independent experts if deemed necessary, in order to satisfy both the Department and the public that robust systems are in place.”
