States Deputy Chief Executive appointed

28 January 2009

The Chief Officer for Transport and Technical Services, John Richardson, has been appointed to the new role of Deputy Chief Executive for the States, which he will take up in the spring.

The States agreed to fund this position during its debate on the business plan for 2009, as a way to bring together all the States central resources under the control of one senior officer.

This process of centralising resources began in 2004 when the States approved a change programme designed to reduce costs by some 20%. Those savings targets have been delivered, and now the next step is to bring Human Resources, Information Services, corporate software systems and Property together into a common function.

In his new post Mr Richardson will spearhead the commitment to savings by driving forward a closer working relationship between all the organisation’s support services.

The Chief Executive, Bill Ogley, said: “This is an investment in the efficient running of an increasingly complex organisation. John will be responsible for making savings and improvements across the public sector, and his long experience within the States will be invaluable when working to improve its administration and performance.”

The Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, said: “This is an important post, especially in the current economic climate. We have already made clear that our main priority is to be tough on cutting States spending and the Council of Ministers wants to implement all possible savings and efficiencies. This new role of Deputy Chief Executive for the States will be instrumental in enabling us to deliver this commitment.”
