The Planning and Environment Minister has appointed the Jersey Arts Trust as a recommended advisor under the Percentage for Art Scheme.

Percentage for Art, which was introduced in 2007, encourages owners of large residential or commercial developments to invest a percentage of their development costs into the provision of art in the built environment.

Senator Freddie Cohen said “The Percentage for Art scheme has been extremely successful. Already many works of art have been commissioned and within a couple of years we will have a portfolio of art in the built environment that will rival any other jurisdiction. I have no doubt that the range of works of art will attract people to the Island.

"I am delighted to appoint the Jersey Arts Trust as a recommended advisor and I hope their knowledge of local artists will deliver many locally relevant works of art. The Jersey Arts Trust will act as a conduit to enable local artists and craftsmen to participate in the exciting development of the Percentage for Art programme in the coming years.

"The vision of the Percentage for Art programme is to create a portfolio of unique works of art and craftsmanship, which are publicly accessible, and which enhance and reflect the beauty of our Island.”

Percentage for Art advisors assist developers in the delivery of works of art under the programme. They engage with the developer and advise them on appropriate artists and art forms as well as managing the commissioning, delivery and installation of the work of art.
