Local residents thinking of spending their summer holidays closer to home - on a 'staycation' - are being invited to a special event that will showcase the diverse range of leisure activities available right here in Jersey .
The free event, which will take place at Weighbridge Place from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday 6 August, has been organised by Jersey Enterprise. It is an extension of the ‘Think Twice, Buy Local’ campaign and taps into the current trend for locals, and especially those with families, to consider spending some, or all of their annual summer holiday on Island.
Senator Alan Maclean, Minister for Economic Development, said: “The concept of a ‘staycation’ is becoming increasingly popular and this event is a great opportunity for local people to see the huge range of activities that are available. During these tough times, a holiday at home can be a relaxing and cost effective choice and there are also real benefits for local companies and the Jersey economy.”
Activities that will be represented at the event include: surfing, rock climbing, sailing, walking, go-karting, mini golf, kite surfing, bungee trampolining and much more.
Jersey Sea Sport Centre will be one of the businesses exhibiting at the event.
Geoff Spencer-Tucker, Director, said: “I think the ‘staycation’ event is a great idea to showcase on-island activities to local people. You so often hear people saying there is nothing to do in Jersey and I am hoping this will show them just how much there is on offer from local companies.”
