Course to help unemployed adults into work begins

12 people, between 20 -50 years of age, are starting a new 8 week course designed to help unemployed adults back into work.

The Advance to Administration programme (which is part of the Advance Plus scheme) begins on Monday 27 September 2010. Funded by the States Fiscal Stimulus Fund, it will help people to find work in office based secretarial and administration positions.

Applicants will benefit from a combination of training and a 5 week work placement. The training will be wide-ranging and will include office skills, advanced IT training (to include Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Access), communication skills, CV and interview skills, emergency first aid and self-development courses.

The Advance to Work scheme (ATW) was launched in September to help unemployed teenagers through the economic downturn and provides young people with a range of training opportunities. Advance Plus concentrates on people aged 20 or over, who are out of work and finding it difficult to get a job or need to gain more experience in a specific field.

Scheme manager Sophie Le Sueur says “The popularity of this initiative proves the need for this type of specific assistance for job-seekers. We hope to build on the successes that the Advance to Work scheme has already achieved with young people, whilst working with unemployed adults. We are targeting areas where there are known job vacancies and are currently also accepting applications for our next scheme, Advance to Retail, which starts in late October."
