All companies with Jersey Property Holdings maintenance contracts are being invited to tender for any future work when their existing contracts expire. The firms are being contacted to explain that their contracts will be terminated on expiry and to invite them to tender for new contracts, alongside any other suitable suppliers.
The aim of this initiative is to increase efficiency by regularly reviewing contracts and to ensure that best value is obtained for the taxpayer.
The volume of work is not being reduced and funding for maintenance works has increased through a temporary injection of Fiscal Stimulus funds. £3.3 million has been allocated for 2009/2010 and a further £20 million to tackle a backlog of maintenance from 2010-2014.
The Director of Property Holdings, David Flowers, said "Invitations to re-tender will be sent to local companies, except where there are specialist requirements that are not locally available.
"We welcome tenders from any local company that can satisfy the best practice criteria for working for the States. In order to reduce costs we propose to reduce the overall number of suppliers and contractors. Bids will be considered from single suppliers, suppliers acting as prime contractors and, where appropriate, joint ventures.”
The first of two tender invitations will be advertised later this month (May 2010).
