Westminster meeting for minister

10 November 2010

The Treasury Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, is in London today to address a breakfast meeting of the International Finance Centre Forum.

Senator Ozouf's speech looks forward to France taking on the chair of the G20 and the upcoming summit in Seoul, and calls for a continued focus on the need for a level playing field in relation to the setting and application of international standards.

He will draw attention to the recent extensive independent verification of Jersey's regulatory framework which has bolstered the Island's reputation as a well regulated finance centre and encouraged a better understanding of the role of offshore jurisdictions.

Following the breakfast meeting, the minister will attend a series of meetings with senior parliamentarians on key Westminster committees to discuss the value of the close links between the Island and the City of London. Also on the agenda will be how Jersey can increasingly represent itself in London and on the international stage and how the Island can work in partnership with the UK on EU matters.

Senator Ozouf commented "I welcome this opportunity to emphasise Jersey's excellent reputation as a finance centre of repute and highlight the need to work closely with our colleagues in London. As we look forward to France assuming the chair of the G20, we call for a continued focus on the need for a consistent application of international standards and a level playing field."
