07 December 2011
On 4 January 2012, resurfacing work will start on the 2 main roads leading to Jersey Airport. The work, which will be carried out on Avenue de la Reine Elizabeth II and Avenue de la Commune, will continue until May 2012.
The section of Avenue de la Reine Elizabeth II that will be resurfaced runs from the roundabout at the top of Beaumont Hill to the airport roundabout; Avenue de la Commune will be worked on between the airport roundabout and a point 100m west of the junction with le Clos Saut Falluet.
The work, which will cost around £750,000, will be carried out between 7.30pm and 2am, in order to minimise any delays to airline passengers. For some sections, where there are no houses in close proximity, the working hours may be extended to 4am. The roads will be closed in short sections to all traffic during these hours, starting from the Beaumont Hill end. Traffic will be diverted along le Mont au Roux, la Rue des Mans and la Rue du Pont Marquet.
A webpage informing members of the public about the project is currently being developed and will be online before the work begins. Members of the public are invited to attend a public exhibition on the scheme from noon until 10pm on 14 December 2011 at the Jersey Aeroclub. Anyone interested in attending should contact Transport and Technical Services on 445509.
