All Islanders are invited to a roadshow with a difference at St Lawrence Parish Hall to find out more about local charities, community support, and the Green Paper published by Health and Social Services.
The community event is jointly supported by the St Lawrence community support team and Jersey’s Ambulance Service. Its aim is to raise awareness of the support services available to senior citizens, their friends, family, carers and the parish community. It will be open on Tuesday 9 August from 11 am to 3 pm.
This roadshow follows on from the success of similar events staged in St Clement in June, and St Martin in May, when Island care organizations ‘showcased’ their products to people who dropped in.
Connetable Deidre Mezbourian said that she and her team were looking forward to welcoming everyone to the parish hall for the event.
The event is also the last opportunity for Islanders to find out about the Green Paper before the consultation closes on Friday 19 August.
The day will provide information and a chance to ask questions about what is on offer in the Island as well as gain some feedback from those who the services are designed to reach and specifically the needs and wants of St Lawrence parishioners.
Islanders who attend the event also have the opportunity to ask about the ongoing public consultation about the future of health and social care in Jersey. Copies of the Green Paper, which is called “Caring for Each Other, Caring for Ourselves” will be available, with representatives from HSSD on hand to answer questions.
Kate Cadigan, of the Ambulance Service added “It is anticipated that there will be around 16 agencies at the parish hall tomorrow, including representatives from Family Nursing and Home Care, Community Alarms, St John Ambulance ‘Caring for the Carers’, Health Promotion, who have an Island walks scheme, and the Jersey Alzheimer's Association. The Ambulance Service will be offering free blood pressure checks and a pharmacist will be present to answer questions on medications. This is the third event of what will hopefully be a long term project, we are very keen for your feedback on what you feel has been useful and what else you would like to see included in the future. We very much hope that Islanders will support this event.”
Parking is available on the field next to St Lawrence Parish Hall for this event.
