Building contracts to continue

26 August 2011

The Minister for Treasury and Resources, Senator Philip Ozouf, has made a statement about the continuation of States contracts with building firm, Charles Le Quesne, following their voluntary liquidation on 27 July 2011.

The statement reads: "At the time of Charles Le Quesne’s voluntary liquidation, the firm was engaged in contracts with the States of Jersey at Grainville School and Clos Gosset. As a result of the winding up order, their employment under these contracts automatically ceased. However, arrangements were made with the appointed liquidator for works to continue in the interim.

"The winding up order allows the States to either reinstate the employment of the company or employ others to complete the work. After extensive consultation with the appointed liquidator, the Minister for Housing and I have agreed to reinstate the employment of the company under the terms and conditions of the original contracts.

"This offers the greatest benefit to all affected parties, including the tenants at Clos Gosset who have been waiting some time to have their homes refurbished.

"It has been confirmed that all funds generated under the contracts will be paid to the liquidator and ring-fenced for payments due to Charles Le Quesne’s employees, sub-contractors, suppliers and other parties until the contracts are completed.  Payments to creditors will only be made once the contracts are completed."
