Deputy Chief Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, will represent Jersey at the Liberal Democrats’ party conference in Birmingham between 18 and 20 September. The conference will be attended by delegates from within the Liberal Democrat party as well as those representing charities, the private sector, political organisations and other jurisdictions, including Guernsey.
Senator Ozouf will be the first Jersey Minister to attend a UK party conference, signifying the Island’s commitment to enhancing political engagement with the UK. During that time he will hold a number of scheduled meetings as well as taking advantage of the full calendar of conference events to raise Jersey’s profile.
Meetings
Senator Ozouf is due to meet with:
- Sir Alan Beith MP, Chair of the Justice Select Committee
- Lord McNally, Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice
- Lord Rennard, former Chief Executive and Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the British Constitution
- Lord German, member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Oman
- Roger Williams MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Islamic Finance and Diversity in Financial Markets
- John Thurso MP, Member of the Treasury Select Committee
Senator Ozouf said: "I anticipate a very busy few days in Birmingham. It is important that we have political representation at key events in the coalition government’s calendar. I have met the party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg on a number of occasions. Liberal Democrat politicians will be instrumental in shaping future policy in Whitehall, which could directly affect Jersey on issues as diverse as university fees, healthcare and the economy. It is important that we continue to have face to face meetings with UK politicians to discuss the value of closer cooperation between Jersey and the UK."
