Shadow Justice Minister for Political and Constitutional Reform, Chris Bryant concluded a 2 day visit to the Island on Wednesday evening (3 August), having met with the Chief Minister, the Economic Development Minister and leading financial services representatives.
Chris Bryant was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign Office during Gordon Brown’s administration, where he dealt with overseas territories, including offshore jurisdictions.
During his short visit to the Island, he met with the Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, and Connétable Juliette Gallichan, Chairman of the Privileges and Procedures Committee, to discuss Jersey’s links with the UK and the Electoral Commission. Mr Bryant also had the opportunity to meet with Jersey Finance, Jersey Financial Services Commission and representatives from the finance industry.
Chief Minister, Senator Le Sueur, said “I’m pleased Mr Bryant has taken the time to make an informal visit to Jersey to learn more about our relationship with the UK and to develop a greater understanding of the Island as a well-regulated international finance centre.”
Mr Bryant is also a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Private Equity and Venture Capital.
