26 August 2011
The school bus service will commence on Tuesday 6 September 2011 to coincide with the beginning of the new academic year.
The services provided are largely the same as those that were in operation before the summer holidays, except for buses serving Le Rocquier School, where a revised network and renumbering of routes is being introduced.
The new services to and from Le Rocquier are:
- 31: Grouville Arsenal, Gorey, Coast Road
- 32: Georgetown, Longueville Road, Rue des Pres
- 33: Hougue Bie, Maufant, Five Oaks, Mont Millais, Georgetown, Longueville, Rue des Pres. In the afternoon, buses extend to Faldouet and the St Martin Public Hall
- 36 (afternoon only): Georgetown, Snow Hill, Esplanade, First Tower
- 37: Liberation Station, West Park, Ring Road, Georgetown
- 38: Green Street, Havre des Pas, Green Road
Additionally, revisions to bus routes serving Grainville School and Haute Vallee School are planned to come into effect on Monday 3 October, the day after the winter 2011-2012 public bus timetable becomes operational. These will be outlined in the public notice that will appear in the Jersey Gazette on Saturday 27 August, and regular passengers will be provided with information detailing the forthcoming changes at least one week before they are implemented.
The initial period of the new academic year, before after-school activities start, can be difficult, as exact demand for the services is not known. Transport and Technical Services (TTS) asks parents, guardians and the students who are intending to use the school buses to understand that there will be an initial period of adjustment as services are balanced with demand over the first few weeks. It is impossible for TTS to predict demand on any service and they cannot guarantee that occasional overloading or scheduling problems will not occur. Both TTS and Connex will work together to iron out any issues as quickly as possible.
Students, parents and guardians are advised to check the timetables carefully. They are available online and also from school offices, with advice sheets if required. The States website also carries other associated documents, which are essential reading for those who make use of the school bus service.
During the 2010-2011 academic year, in excess of 315,000 journeys were recorded across the school bus network, averaging almost 1,700 trips per day.
