New and improved States Assembly and Scrutiny websites have been launched and these have each been redesigned to give users faster and easier access to the information they are looking for.
The relaunched States Assembly website, which includes details of members, a record of past sittings and information about past and future propositions, has been overhauled 8 years after its original launch to improve its functionality. Users can now:
- search for a proposition by year range and / or by the person who lodged it
- search for all questions asked or answered by a particular member or minister and / or within a date range
- sort members by parish, by seniority or alphabetically
- find more information about propositions and voting, with an automatic link to the States minutes and Hansard of the debate
- see a 'what's new' and 'what's current' facility which gives detail of items of current interest (for example, a proposition due to go to the States soon)
The updates also extend to the Scrutiny website, which now has an improved layout and better search access to all work by the Scrutiny panels and the Public Accounts Committee including reviews, submissions and Scrutiny reports. The improvements are hoped to significantly enhance public understanding of the work Scrutiny does and to encourage more members of the public to suggest topics for review and submit evidence through the website.
The changes are the result of discussions with States Members, civil servants and the general public which exposed a number of issues with the way information was organised online. It is hoped that the new websites, unveiled on Wednesday 23 November, will not only facilitate more efficient working practices and shorten search times, but also encourage public engagement by clarifying some of the more technical aspects of the political process.
