The States tugboat The Duke of Normandy has suffered damage to its hull following an incident late on Friday afternoon (2 September) when it ‘touched bottom’ just outside St Helier Harbour.
The vessel, which was being used to help with the annual Brewin Dolphin Sailing Regatta in St Aubin’s Bay, was returning to port when it started to take on water. The vessel returned safely to St Helier Harbour and a team of divers were sent down to investigate the extent of the damage and make temporary repairs.
There were no injuries to any of the 4 members of crew on board.
The vessel will now be transferred to the Port of Falmouth where it will undergo repairs. A temporary replacement tug, Goliath, arrived in the Island from Poole at the weekend.
