The Minister for Transport and Technical Services (TTS), Deputy Kevin Lewis, is introducing a 4 hour parking trial at Ann Place Car Park on 5 consecutive Saturdays starting this Saturday 6 October.
Ann Place Car Park has 145 spaces which are normally occupied by all day parkers. Changing the maximum stay to 4 hours means this car park will be free for shoppers on these 5 Saturdays.
It is hoped that its proximity to the north of town shopping area will be popular. There is parking available at Green Street Car Park for the residents and commuters who normally park at Ann Place.
Deputy Lewis said “We are running this trial to see if turning this car park into a shoppers’ car park on Saturdays helps the retailers in St Helier.
"It is not because of a shortage of short-stay parking – the multi-storey car parks are never full on a Saturday except for a few days around Christmas time. It is about location. This trial makes more spaces available in a car park which is nearer to West Centre and the markets.”
