French politicians to visit Jersey

10 February 2012

A delegation of senior politicians from the French department of La Manche will visit Jersey on 14 February 2012.

Led by Préfet de la Manche, Adolphe Colrat, and Président du Conseil Général de la Manche, Jean-François Le Grand, the delegation will meet the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache.

Guernsey’s Chief Minister, Deputy Lyndon Trott, is also attending to discuss regional issues common to governments on both sides of the Channel. These are expected to include emergency planning, environmental issues, energy provision and ongoing talking points from previous meetings with representatives of La Manche.

Senator Gorst commented “I look forward to building on the well-established and productive dialogue that we currently enjoy with the department of La Manche, and I welcome the chance to include Guernsey’s Chief Minister in our talks. It is important that we maintain a joined-up approach with our political neighbours, both in France and Guernsey.”

The itinerary will include meetings with the Lieutenant-Governor at Government House and with the Bailiff at his chambers.

Also among those participating in the talks and welcoming the delegation to Jersey will be President of the Bureau de Jersey, Mr Ken Vibert, and Chief Executive of Jersey Electricity, Mr Chris Ambler.
