Public litter bins are available all over the Island, including the places which are most used by dog walkers and are certainly more plentiful than the special dog waste bins, which are now being phased out as they come to the end of their useful life.
Initial trials using domestic sized wheelie bins held in a captive frame have proved successful for litter collection and these are now widespread throughout the Island. It is perfectly acceptable to use these and any other litter bin for bagged dog waste as well as for non-recyclable litter. TTS will be adding information signs to their bins accordingly.
The Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said: “It is very important to dispose of dog mess properly, as most dog owners already do. There is no excuse for not clearing up after your pet.”
TTS believe there are litter bins at all popular public locations. However, if any member of the public would like to suggest a location that they think needs a litter bin, please email TTS and let them know. The locations have to be capable of having good vehicular access and the Department will consider all suggestions in relation to their suitability in the surrounding environment.
