06 July 2012
Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is working with Jersey Water on an infrastructure maintenance project on Rue des Pres. As part of the project, water mains and kerbs will be renewed and the pavement resurfaced.
Updates on traffic management will be online from the start of the project on Tuesday 10 July. Information on the project phases and diversion routes will also be displayed at Waitrose supermarket on Rue des Pres.
Phase 1
Phase 1 will start on Tuesday 10 July and last for 4 weeks. Work will be predominantly on the pavement and the road will be closed to northbound traffic for pedestrian use. Northbound vehicles will use Plat Douet road or Aubin Lane. Access to Waitrose will be signposted from Plat Douet road.
Phase 2
Phase 2 of the project will see the replacement of the uneven road surface. The layout of the junction of Rue des Pres and Plat Douet road is being reviewed. This will be formalised and the street lighting improved.
Phase 2 has been scheduled for the summer holidays to avoid disrupting pupils and parents during term-time. It will start on Tuesday 7 August 2012. This work is out to tender and its duration will be agreed with the successful contractor. As the road is quite narrow it will need to be closed in sections to all traffic to allow the resurfacing and strengthening works. Road-users will be diverted along Aubin Lane from 9am to 4.30pm.
States of Jersey and Jersey Water will be working in partnership to reduce the duration of the project, minimise disruption to the public and keep costs down. Major stakeholders have been consulted, including the emergency services. All businesses along the route will remain open as usual.
TTS will do its utmost to minimise disruption. However, this essential infrastructure maintenance work will cause some delay to motorists and disturbance to householders. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
