Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is asking the public to tell them what they think about the operation of our taxis in Jersey and has launched a consultation process today.
TTS is currently reviewing the taxi service in the Island. A report has been produced which outlines the current situation and highlights issues. Before the Department decides on if, and how, these issues should be addressed, it wants to hear what the public, the taxi industry and interested groups think about the issues.
TTS is the States department that is in charge of the rules which govern the operation of taxis. It is particularly interested in getting the public’s opinion on the 2 tiered taxi system (rank taxis and company cabs), fares and service expectations.
Members of the public are invited to go on to the States website and complete an online questionnaire at Consultations. There is also a short briefing document to explain the issues as well as the full report. Paper copies of the questionnaire will also be available from the States bookshop, Cyril Le Marquand House, parish halls, the library as well as TTS offices. Members of the public can also write in to Transport and Technical Services, PO Box 412, South Hill Offices, St Helier, JE4 8UY or ring Jane Gouyette on tel 448203 to arrange an opportunity to discuss the issues in person. The closing date for submissions is 28 June 2012.
Meetings will also be held in the coming weeks with the taxi industry and with various groups who are particularly interested in the operation of taxis. After all this feedback has been obtained, TTS will put together firm proposals.
