Dress up your composter

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is inviting Islanders to dress up their composters this May to raise awareness about home composting and encourage people to take part.

 

Anyone can join in by ‘dressing up’ their composter and sharing a photograph of it with Recycle for Jersey on Facebook.  The Recycling Team will send a little thank you gift to those who take part.

 

The campaign will run during May which includes International Compost Awareness Week on 6-12 May.

 

Campaign posters have been sent to all schools, States departments, Eco-Active Businesses and garden centres. The posters feature ‘Wigglebert the Worm’ who is a familiar character to local school children from his visits to nursery and reception classes to run composting workshops.

 

Emma Richardson, Recycling Manager, TTS said "Composting helps people to see waste as something that has a value, as you are converting kitchen and garden rubbish into a resource. Most Jersey schools are composting and as well as a recycling tool, it helps engage students with the outdoors and links across the curriculum from mini beasts to healthy eating. We hope that our ‘dress up your composter’ campaign provides a different way to get people interested in home composting and we are looking forward to seeing the results."

 

TTS supply subsidised home composting kits which are sold through garden centres for £10.
