Law Via the Internet 2013 conference

The Jersey Legal Information Board (JLIB) has announced the two key speakers for this year’s Law Via the Internet 2013 Conference.

 

The broadcaster, barrister and comedy writer, Clive Coleman, and the Director of Information Policy & Services at the UK’s National Archives, Carol Tullo, will be exploring the conference theme of free access to law in a changing world.

 

This year’s Law Via the Internet conference, which takes place in Jersey from 26-27 September, will focus on the implications of making legal materials freely available and accessible as the world faces major social, political and technological changes.

 

While many developed nations take for granted access to their legal information, some areas of the world do not have this facility.

 

Themes explored include the impact of e-publishing on democracy, access to the law and rule of law, standards for online information and privacy issues versus the public right to legal materials.

 

 

Carol Tullo will be focusing on solving the challenge of the 21st century statute book, investigating how accessibility has been put at the centre of legislation.gov.uk, the official home of UK legislation.

 

Clive Coleman will concentrate on the rise of the right to privacy and the policing of the law of contempt in the internet age.

 

You can submit proposals for papers and presentations until 31 March 2013. Proposals should be based on this year’s theme of free access to the law in a changing world.

 

Abstracts should be no more than 500 words. Submissions will be accepted via www.jerseylvi2013.org

 

Recent conferences have been held at Cornell University Law School, USA, and the University of Hong Kong. The selection of Jersey to host this year’s conference recognises JLIB’s expertise in making the Island’s legislation and judgements freely available to everyone.
