Patients and staff will have restricted access to the Newgate Street entrance of the General Hospital during evening resurfacing work between 6pm and 10pm from Tuesday 4 to Thursday 6 June inclusive.
Contractors will be renewing the carriageway of Newgate Street between Patriotic Street and Gloucester Street.
Access for pedestrians and vehicles will be maintained throughout the work, except on the evening of Thursday 6 June, when the new surface will be laid. On Thursday there will be no vehicular access between 6 pm and 10 pm for anyone using the Gwyneth Huelin ramp or the adjacent underground car park.
Deputy Director of Operations at the General Hospital Gary Kynman said “While the essential Newgate Street works are undertaken all hospital services, including the out-of-hours GP Co-op services, will continue as normal. The main Parade entrance, and access for ambulances going to the Emergency Department, will be unaffected by this work.”
The Hospital and the Parish of St Helier have planned additional measures to minimise disruption and inconvenience to patients, relatives and staff accessing the Gwyneth Huelin Wing. These include a temporary ramp across Newgate Street from Patriotic Street car park for patients with limited mobility or those using a mobility aid.
On Thursday 6 June between 6 pm and 10 pm, additional portering services will be available – this will enable those patients requiring wheelchair assistance, who would otherwise have been collected at the Gwyneth Huelin ramp, to get to the Parade entrance.
It is anticipated that all works will be completed by 10pm on Thursday 6 June.
