Islanders are being invited along to West Centre next Wednesday (5 June) to get free and impartial advice about a range of environmental issues, including energy efficiency, recycling and transport.
In recognition of World Environment Day, the States Energy Efficiency Service, which is leading the event, will be there with the Greener Living Trailer at West Centre between 9 am and 4 pm. Staff will be on hand to offer free independent advice to Islanders on ways they could save money by being more energy efficient at both work and home.
They’ll be raising awareness of their Home Energy Scheme, a 100% grant funded scheme which helps Islanders lower their energy bills, keep warmer, and reduce Jersey’s carbon footprint. The team will also be running a free prize draw – the winner will receive a £100 Normans voucher to be spent on insulation products such as loft insulation, draught proofing or pipework lagging.
Staff from the States Eco-Active, Environmental Protection, Recycling, Natural Environment and Transport & Technical Services’ Travel Awareness teams will also be on hand across the day to offer information and advice on a wide range of local environmental issues.
Department of the Environment Energy Efficiency Service Programme Manager, Mark Le Lay, said “We’re encouraging everyone to celebrate World Environment Day in some way. Whether it’s by switching to low energy lamps, shutting down their PC at the end of the day, fixing a leaking tap, or topping up their loft insulation at home, everyone can help make a difference and it could also save them money.”
World Environment Day is an annual event started in 1972 by the United Nations Environment Programme. It aims to increase worldwide awareness of environmental issues, encouraging people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter future for themselves as well as future generations.
