Jersey Fire and Rescue are reminding islanders of the dangers of using open chip pans after they were called to a lodging house in the early hours of Sunday morning (8 June 2014) to tackle a fire started by a chip pan.
When they arrived at the premises in St Helier, the kitchen fire had already been put out by the building's caretaker. However, a man was taken to hospital with burns to his hands.
The Fire and Rescue Service strongly recommend that people avoid cooking with open chip pans and use modern thermostatic chip pans instead or use oven chips.
